Larder Volunteer

Help run local food distribution events and support people in your community.

Our Larder Volunteers are vital to ensuring the food we receive ends up with people who need it the most. You will be delivering a full van of surplus food to our weekly food larders and redistributing it to the local community. Volunteers support the setup and running of each session – preparing the space, organising food, and helping ensure everything runs smoothly. It’s a hands-on, people-focused role where you’ll be part of a friendly team and play a key role in creating welcoming, community-focused spaces where people can access and share good food with dignity.

We rely on both Larder Drivers and Co-Drivers to make each session possible. Together, you’ll help transport food to the larder and support with unloading, setting up displays, and packing away at the end. By working closely with your team and the host organisation, you’ll help make sure surplus food is shared in a way that feels welcoming, respectful, and well organised – helping communities come together and get the most out of each session.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Welcoming visitors and helping them access food in a friendly, respectful way
  • Setting up the distribution area and restocking the larder space
  • Supporting visitors to choose food items and answering questions

Our Community Larders developed at a time of real need to support people locally, build links and connect with local organisations. The larder has become an integral part of our week and the volunteers who attend value the friendship and support offered. Being part of the Community Larders has been a very rewarding experience. Our loyal and friendly members, alongside local organisations value the support we provide, and together we continue to create positive change within our communities.
