Leading rural insurer NFU Mutual has released a powerful new film showcasing how its partner charity Felix is helping tackle food waste, support people in need and strengthen communities across the UK.
At its heart, the film recognises the vital role played by food producers who generously donate surplus food.
The film follows the journey of surplus courgettes grown in West Sussex to a local charity supporting people facing hardship, demonstrating how producers, food redistribution organisations and community groups are working together to ensure good food reaches those who need it most.
Featuring the work of Felix, alongside food producer Barfoots, Felix network partner FareShare Sussex & Surrey and Worthing Soup Kitchen, the film highlights the real-life impact of collaboration. Food that might otherwise go to waste is transformed into nutritious meals and vital support for individuals and families, while helping to build stronger, more resilient communities.
The film also celebrates the growing partnership between the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust and Felix. Through a new two-year £150,000 commitment announced in 2026, the partnership will help redistribute the equivalent of more than two million meals to communities across the UK, with a particular focus on reaching rural areas where access to affordable, nutritious food can be more challenging.
Sadly, the number of people experiencing food insecurity is rising, while recent drought conditions and ongoing issues in the Middle East are adding further pressure to an already challenging situation. It means demand for our food will also increase and that is why partnerships like this are so vital. Funding from the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust will help us unlock more surplus produce and ensure we see more places, just like Worthing Soup Kitchen, receive the delicious and nutritious produce they need to fill people’s plates and improve their lives.

Supporting rural communities is central to NFU Mutual’s purpose, and I’m proud that our partnership with Felix is helping ensure good food reaches people who need it most. Through the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, we’re providing vital funding, but we’re also committed to supporting the charity in practical ways, whether that’s connecting farmers and growers with surplus food schemes, raising awareness across the food supply chain, or volunteering our time. This film shows what can be achieved when charities, businesses and communities come together to create lasting positive change.
