Felix kickstarts a revolution

Right now, it’s cheaper for a business to waste food than to give it to people. It’s time to change that. Felix is starting a Redistribution Revolution, find out how you can get involved.

Felix has launched its first campaign as a merged charity.

The Redistribution Revolution campaign leads with the messaging that every year over a billion meals’ worth of good quality surplus food goes to waste in our supply chain. That’s enough to feed every child in the UK for a month or laid out enough to fill 17,000 football pitches.

This food could easily be rescued but currently not enough of it is, Felix wants to change that. The campaign is aiming to raise more awareness of the issues, raise more funds and encourage more volunteers to donate their time.

The campaign is also calling on the public to write to their local MP to urge them to back the charity’s ask of government. Felix wants to see a change in the tax rules that would encourage businesses to redistribute their surplus food. Right now, it’s cheaper for a business to waste food than to give it to people. Felix has submitted an ask to the treasury calling on the chancellor to make this change and a pilot a scheme in the manufacturing sector.

This is a hugely important campaign. The visuals really show the issue of food waste in a clear, creative yet quite stark way. Seeing food piled up in places we recognise really hits home, and to know that one billion meals worth of edible food, that we could and should be rescuing, is not getting to the people that need it most is quite shocking. So many people are currently facing food insecurity, and the situation is only going to get worse. Felix must be there to help, but to do that we must rescue more food. I hope everyone who sees our campaign will understand the importance of what we are saying, will write to their MP, donate or volunteer their time and join The Redistribution Revolution!
