The amazing volunteers who made it happen

Volunteer teams from the Canary Wharf business community including Citi, Brookfield, Zopa Bank, KPMG and Morgan Stanley all took part in the Felix Big Pack this week, achieving a huge result of 100,000 meals packed, with a further 350,000 funded through donations. All being delivered Londoners most in need this winter.

Felix is the UK’s leading food rescue charity. It rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and gets it to over 8,000 charities, community organisations and primary schools across the UK, including around 1,200 in London. With living costs continuing to rise, more people are facing food insecurity meaning increased numbers are having to turn to food support services to feed themselves and their families.

Since 2023, CWG and Felix have worked side by side to tackle food insecurity across East London. Together, the partnership has rescued and redistributed 13,886kg of surplus food through their volunteer-led Green Scheme, to local organisations including Neighbours in Poplar, St Mungo’s Luke House and Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest, so good food reaches the people who need it rather than going to waste. The Canary Wharf community has stepped up too – with 557 fundraisers climbing the stairs of the iconic One Canada Square in the Felix Santa Stair Climb and more than 4,000 volunteers supporting Felix’s Poplar operations every year through the partnership. The Big Pack is the partnership’s next step in bringing people together to enhance lives in the community, reflecting a shared, long-term commitment to the neighbourhoods around Canary Wharf and to a London where no one goes hungry.

Every day the amazing organisations we supply are strengthening their local communities by offering much needed advice, activities, social connection and other practical support. The food is often the catalyst that brings people in, so it is vital Felix continues to supply as much as we can. Partnerships and events like this one are an incredible source of that food, and I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who packed a box. The 100,000 boxes will be shared with organisations and continue to strengthen the local community around Canary Wharf and beyond.

— Charlotte Hill, CEO of Felix

Packing 100,000 meals in a single day, and funding a further 350,000, is a remarkable result, and it is down to the hundreds of people from across the Canary Wharf business community who gave their time and generosity. Our partnership with Felix has always been about practical, local action, from rescuing surplus food on the estate to supporting the organisations doing vital work in Poplar and across Tower Hamlets. As winter approaches and more Londoners face difficult choices, we are proud to stand alongside Felix, and we are committed to growing this work in the years ahead.
